03-28-19 | Songs for Listening | Todd Walker
Todd Walker, the excellent music booking agent, picked tunes at Songs for Listening for Thursday, March 28. Starting with a phone, map, and a directory of venues, Todd opened his own agency in the late-90s and began promoting shows in the Boston area. He joined International Music Network (IMN) in 2000 and later The Windish Agency in 2012. He’s agented iconic artists including Cassandra Wilson, Sinead O’Connor, Shuggie Otis, Bobby Womack, and Jóhann Jóhannsson. He's currently an agent at the Paradigm Talent Agency, after their merger with Windish, and represents Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, Christian McBride, Anoushka Shankar, Joep Beving, Suzanne Vega, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, amongst others.
Todd has an exceptional sense of how to maintain a roster of artists that are both forward-looking and commercially viable — he's built a stable of artists with such considerations front of mind. Through his work with Frahm, Arnalds, Jóhannsson, Beving, and Max Richter, Todd has helped solidify a whole genre of electroacoustic music in North America. Further, he's adored by programmers and artists in manner that's rare for an agent — which underlies, I think, his deep commitment to the music and love for the experience of listening live.
