Kate Nordstrum — executive producer of special projects at St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, curator/founder of the SPCO’s Liquid Music series (awarded “Best of Classical” by NY Times), and creative producer of the LA Phil’s Centennial Fluxus Festival — picked tunes at Song for Listening' for Friday, March 22. Named 'Best Independent Producer" by the Star Tribune, Kate's recent projects include co-presentations and partnerships with the Walker Art Center, MASS MoCA, On Being with Krista Tippett, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and New Amsterdam Records. Through Liquid Music (est. 2012 at the SPCO), Kate has built a boundary-defying platform where artists can take creative risks on long-lead projects and collaborate in exciting ways not viable elsewhere. Kate has been widely praised for her programmatic vision and catholic tastes, with outlets describing her as “the most adventurous music curator in town” (MinnPost), “a presenter of rare initiative” (Star Tribune), and "Twin Cities' curatorial powerhouse with international pull” (Minnesota Public Radio).
As the producer at Liquid Music, Kate has been central in the creation of an astounding quantity of exceptional new work that aims to altogether expand, democratize, and revivify the concert hall; some recent Liquid Music commissions: Come Through by TU Dance + Bon Iver | Fanm d'Ayiti' by Nathalie Joachim | Origami Harvest by Ambrose Akinmusire + Kool A.D. w/ Mivos Quartet | Spiritual America by Wye Oak + William Brittelle.
