03-11-19 | Songs for Listening | Jill Sternheimer

Jill Sternheimer, director of public programming at Lincoln Center, where she oversees Midsummer Night Swing and Lincoln Center Out of Doors, picked the tunes for Monday, March 11 at Songs for Listening. In addition to her work at Lincoln Center, Jill co-created the popular Turning the Tables series with Ann Powers for NPR Music, a celebration of the pioneering women of the classic album era. Jill has worked in the field of popular music production for most of her career, including stints with George Wein's Festival Productions (which produces the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest) and at WFUV Radio.

Jill has as true a taste for American popular music as anyone currently programming in the US. Her presenting work consistently showcases musical excellence, but also manages to spark meaningful discourse about the intersections of music and culture. Her programming moves from strength to strength with every new season at Lincoln Center Out of Doors — the shows she makes in Damrosch Park are so clearly offered with grace and received with joy.
