Myles Weinstein, president of Unlimited Myles, one of the premier booking agencies in jazz, picked tunes for Tuesday, March 5 at Songs for Listening. Myles represents musicians such as Alicia Olatuja, Kenny Barron, Stefon Harris, Luciana Souza, Vijay Iyer, Arturo O'Farrill, and Dr Lonnie Smith. Before hanging his own shingle, Myles served as the director of the jazz division at Herbert Barrett Management. In addition to his work as an agent, Myles has performed as a percussionist with Stefon Harris, Chris Potter, Steve Turre, and the Long Island Philharmonic. He studied music at Rutgers, Manhattan School of Music, and the New England Conservatory.
In addition to handling an indispensable aspect of the business flawlessly, Myles is a serious listener. His decision to represent an artist always seemed to me based on the fact that he'd spent considerable time with their music and had decided himself a fan. Further, in an arena where artists are often exploring new ideas, Myles appreciates and champions the artist's prerogative, making him, indeed, a rare agent.
