09-20-19 | Songs for Listening | Aaron Mattocks
Aaron Mattocks, director of programming at The Joyce Theater, picked tunes for Friday, September 20 at Songs for Listening.
Here's Aaron's picks with his annotations:
'Heaven Only Knows' by Bob Moses
"Heard it on a friend’s mix: visual artist Tennessee Loveless: 'Beautiful Noise Broadcast'. Isolated it and couldn’t stop playing it for a week straight."
'Sometimes It Snows in April' by Meshell Ndegeocello
"One of my favorite recording artists of all time is Prince. Gideon Lester from Bard Fisher Center first shared Meshell’s album with me when we began discussing a Ron K. Brown co-commission. I was walking out my door on my way to work, and stopped dead in my tracks when I realized what song she was covering. Repeat. Forever."
'Eye in the Wall' by Perfume Genius
"One of the most exciting collaborations coming up for me is the commission we’re doing with Kate Wallich and Perfume Genius. Working with Jack MacLarnan at Seattle Theatre Group to present this new show from two really exciting artists. I saw a studio showing & had to pick my jaw up off the floor. This is going to be a thrill. 'Eye in the Wall' is PG's latest single."
'Waiting' by Alice Boman & PAL from ‘Skisser / Remixed’
"Heard this shopping. Always reminds me of season two of 'Transparent'. Currently waiting for the release of the end of the series musical finale. When in doubt, sing out."
