09-12-19 | Songs for Listening | Howard Fishman
Musician, writerm and theater-maker Howard Fishman picked tunes for Thursday, September 12 at Songs for Listening.
Here's a note from Howard on his list:
"Although I would love to include what I consider to be vital overlooked tracks from the entire history of recorded music, for the purposes of this assignment, it seems most urgent to give exposure to my fellow contemporary indie recording artists. All of these people are out there in the trenches making vital work right now, and all are greatly deserving of wider recognition. I only wish that I could include even more of my peers — these just happened to be the first handful that I reached for. Thank you for the opportunity to exposure their brilliant music to a few more ears."
Howard has released ten albums of music and toured the world as a headlining artist. The New York Times has written that his music "transcends time and idiom." A testament to the variety of his music, Howard has been programmed on bills with musicians including: Odetta, Yo Yo Ma, Maceo Parker, Califone, Esperanza Spalding and Andrew Bird. He is also a contributing culture writer to The New Yorker; a playwright; a theater director and actor; a painter; teacher; and a composer for stage and screen.
